A seeker in Afghanistan explores afterlife

Afterlife

A seeker from Afghanistan, formerly Muslim, initiated a conversation about what happens after death and expressed genuine interest in learning about Jesus Christ and Christianity. Despite acknowledging the significant danger and isolation of being Christian in Afghanistan, the seeker firmly committed to following Jesus, prayed a prayer of commitment with the AI envoy, and was directed to begin reading the Gospel of John as the next step in their spiritual journey. The conversation ended with the seeker having made a pivotal decision to pursue a relationship with God, though they remain in a precarious situation requiring wisdom and caution about their newfound faith.

What happens after death?

This is one of the deepest questions that people ask, and I'm truly glad you're thinking about it.

Before we talk more, I want to know a little about you. Do you have a particular religious background? Have you ever thought about or heard anything about what happens after death?

This helps me understand where you're coming from and how we can continue this conversation in a meaningful way.

Yes I was Muslim

Thank you for sharing that with me. You said "was" - does that mean you're now in a different place with your beliefs, or are you still searching and thinking?

And what have you heard about Jesus Christ? In the Quran, Jesus (Prophet Jesus) holds a very special place - He was born of a virgin daughter Quran 3:47, He is called the Word of God and Spirit from Him Quran 4:171, He performed miracles, and He was taken up to heaven. Have you ever been curious to learn more about Him, or to read the Gospel yourself?

I ask because what Christians say about life after death is directly connected to who Jesus is and what He did.

Send me the Gospel book

How wonderful that you want to read the Gospel yourself! This is a big step.

The best place to start is the Gospel of John - one of four accounts of the life, teachings, and miracles of Jesus Christ. John wrote specifically so that people would understand who Jesus really is.

We can go through one chapter at a time together. I'm sending you the first chapter - read it and ask any questions you have, then we'll move to the next chapter.

Gospel of John, Chapter 1: John 1:1-51

Click on John 1:1-51 above to open the entire chapter in your own language and read it.

When you've read it, tell me - what interested you? Or what question came up?

Also know that you can read the entire Bible for free in Bible apps like YouVersion or download from bible.com so you always have it.

There are no Christians in Afghanistan, what should I do?

Dear friend, I understand that you are in difficult circumstances. Following Jesus in Afghanistan is truly challenging and can even be dangerous.

But know that God sees you and loves you, even where you are. Jesus said: "Where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them" Matthew 18:20. You are not alone - even if you feel you are.

A few things you can do:

1. Personal relationship with God: You can talk to God directly - at any time, in any place. You don't need a church building. Jesus said God is looking for those who worship in spirit and in truth John 4:23-24.

2. Bible online: You can read the Gospel privately - on your phone or online. God's word is alive and helps you grow.

3. Believers online: Christians around the world exist who can support you from a distance and pray with you.

Before we talk more - do you really want to follow Jesus? Or are you still learning and thinking?

Yes I want to

This is truly beautiful, and God sees your heart. Your decision to follow Jesus is the most important decision of your life.

Jesus said: "I am the way and the truth and the life" John 14:6. He came to give you a new life - forgiveness, freedom, and a real relationship with God.

The first step is to tell God what is in your heart. You must speak to God yourself - as artificial intelligence I cannot pray for you, but I can write a sample prayer that you can read or say in your own words:

"God, I know that I am a sinner and I need you. I believe that Jesus is your son, that he died for my sins and rose again. I repent and want to follow Jesus. Please forgive me and give me a new life. Amen."

If you said this from your heart, the Bible says you have become a child of God John 1:12. This is the beginning of a journey.

What happens now?

  1. Read: Start the Gospel of John that I sent you - this helps you get to know Jesus

  2. Pray: Talk to God every day, like a friend

  3. Stay safe: In Afghanistan you must be very careful - ask God for wisdom

Did you pray this prayer?
